Helen Bone – In Memoriam

Helen Bone – In Memoriam

It is with great sadness that we share the news of Helen Bone’s passing yesterday, aged just 42. Helen was a remarkable woman—strong, resilient and deeply compassionate. As a mesothelioma patient and long-time supporter of Mesothelioma UK, she dedicated herself to raising awareness and driving change.

Helen’s contributions were nothing short of extraordinary. She initiated a powerful petition urging the government to prioritise asbestos removal from public buildings, supported awareness campaigns, and consistently spoke out about the dangers of asbestos. Her tireless advocacy gave voice to a cause that impacts so many and provided hope to others walking the same difficult path.

Reflecting on Helen’s life and her incredible impact, our CEO Liz Darlison shares: “I’m filled with sadness when I think about how our paths first crossed. Despite the circumstances, there were moments when we were simply two nurses doing what we do best—co-presenting, travelling, and tirelessly raising awareness together. Helen embodied everything a nurse should aspire to be, and it was both a privilege and an honour to work alongside her.

“Helen’s dedication, compassion, and tireless advocacy will never be forgotten. Thank you, Helen, for all you gave and for the difference you made in the lives of so many. I promise to continue working to protect our NHS colleagues and others from the devastating impact of asbestos. Rest in peace, Helen, and thank you for your extraordinary legacy.”

Over the years, Helen’s influence became a cornerstone of our work. Her courage and determination inspired countless others and significantly bolstered our mission to support those affected by mesothelioma.

Our thoughts are with Helen’s husband, her three children and all her loved ones during this difficult time. We are forever grateful for Helen’s incredible contributions and the enduring legacy of hope and strength she leaves behind.

Thank you, Helen. You will be deeply missed.
